NEW YORK - An AM New York/News 12 poll shows Eliot Spitzer and Scott Stringer in a virtual dead heat going into the Democratic primaries.

The poll found Spitzer leading slightly with 46 percent of voters across the city, compared to 43 percent for Stringer.

However, the gap widens in the Bronx. The former governor leads the poll at 50 percent, compared to Stringer's 37 percent of the vote.

There is also a split in the race when it comes to people's backgrounds. White voters seem to favor Stringer at this point, while it appears most black and Latino voters are backing Spitzer.
