NEW YORK - (AP) - A new poll says that the popularity of New YorkCity schools Chancellor Cathie Black is sinking as she enters herfourth month on the job.

The Marist College poll released Monday found that 17percent of New York City adults say the former media executive isdoing a good or excellent job, down from 21 percent in earlyFebruary. Twenty-three percent say they don't know how to rate herwork or haven't ever heard of her.

Natalie Ravitz, a spokeswoman for the city's EducationDepartment, says the Chancellor is focusing on ensuring that everychild has access to high-quality schools and first-rate education.

The survey reached 772 New Yorkers by phone from March 22through 24 and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5percentage points.
