NEW YORK - The hardships of senior citizens took the front seat in a pop-up driving course.

The event at the Brooklyn Museum allowed participants to experience first-hand what it's like to drive as a senior with the help of a simulated suit. The gear uses weights and braces to create the feeling of restricted movement, similar to arthritis and fatigue, that the elderly often face.

The goal is to show that there are challenges and safety concerns when it comes to senior driving, and to encourage people to talk with older parents about when to stop getting behind the wheel before it's too late.

According to a survey conducted by Liberty Mutual, which sponsored the event, 55 percent of baby boomers with parents who still drive are concerned about their abilities, and 29 percent didn't want to talk to them about it.
