Private garbage truck crashes, spills fuel at 134th Street, Brown Place in Mott Haven

THE BRONX - Gallons of fuel spilled into the street Thursday after a private garbage truck crashed in Mott Haven.

Officials say the driver lost control of its brakes and slammed into a wooden pole on 134th Street and Brown Place, rupturing its saddle tank and taking out a fire hydrant.

Fire officials and police responded to help clean up the mess, and are now investigating if a mechanical failure is to blame.

No injuries were reported.
