THE BRONX - Today marks the 43rd anniversary of baseball legend Roberto Clemente’s death, and a Bronx group is carrying on his legacy of humanitarianism.

Clemente died while transporting 16,000 pounds of aid to Nicaragua earthquake victims. The Bronx-based organization Project Club Clemente fulfilled his mission 10 years ago during The Flight for Humanity. Today is the 10th anniversary of that mission.

PCC is celebrating Clemente’s baseball parents with Operation Batter-up. The organization is collecting baseball equipment for children to be shipped to the YMCA in Nicaragua.

People can drop off used or new baseball equipment at BMNAR on 1867 Williamsbridge Road or at the YMCA on 2 Castle Hill Ave. PCC will be collecting until Jan. 21.
