THE BRONX - New York City Public Advocate Bill de Blasio is introducing legislation that could finally curb landlord negligence in New York City.

The plan aims to punish landlords who don't fix problems within their buildings by cutting them off and banning them from city programs funded by taxpayer money such as the Advantage Program and Section 8. It would also deny those on the watch list the opportunity to get new city leases.

De Blasio says the plan aims to cut needless red tape for landlords who do make repairs in a timely manner. It also helps good building owners access tax incentive programs through a help desk.
