THE BRONX - The Public Advocate's Office has released its list of worst public housing projects in the Bronx.

According to the NYCHA watch list, the Melrose Houses is the worst in the borough with more than 3,800 repairs needed.

The Sonia Sotomayor Houses isn’t far behind in second place, and the Eastchester Gardens rounds out the top three with more than 3,300 open work orders.

Public Advocate Bill de Blasio released a statement saying in part, "Our public housing got this bad, in part, because there is zero accountability...We're going to use the watch list to hold NYCHA's feet to the fire."

NYCHA says it is responding to maintenance and repair work orders. The agency adds that open repair work orders have been reduced from 422,000 to 197,000 as of Aug. 1 of this year.
