THE BRONX - Bronx residents weighed in about the future plans for the Kingsbridge Armory at a public hearing held by Community Board 7 Tuesday evening.

Residents sounded off on a plan to turn the space, which has been empty for nearly 20 years, into a massive ice center. Developer Knic Partners says its plan will provide huge financial benefits to the area, including living wages, community space and free or discounted rates to local schools.

The ice center has garnered the support of Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and Mayor Michael Bloomberg, but some people argued that the armory should not be commercialized.

Approved proposals will ultimately end up in front of the City Council before any work begins.
