THE BRONX - A public hearing was held tonight at Lehman High School for parents and students to discuss the school's possible closure.

Last month, the Department of Education released a list of 23 public high schools facing closure beginning at the next school year.
Lehman was put on the chopping block partly because of poor performance on statewide exams and low graduation rates.
In July, the teachers union received a court order blocking the closure. Moreover, local leaders say Lehman should not be held to the same standards as other schools because it has a higher percentage of special education students.
School officials say, over the next few weeks, they'll survey feedback from students, parents and staff members.
