THE BRONX - Choosing healthy snacks can sometimes be an uphill battle for parents because many available treats on the market are packed with added sugar or fat.

Julie Schwartz, a registered dietitian, suggests giving kids fruit with yogurt, whole grain crackers, low-fat cheese, or vegetables with a hummus dip.

Schwartz says one of the best ways to tell if a food is healthy is to read the nutrition label.

"Try to avoid sugar in the top three ingredients, any kind of sugar, or if it's listed three different times," she says.
