NEW YORK - The registry of New York sex offenders is being expanded to include multiple photographs of people on the list.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says that the website enhancements are meant to make it easier for both police and the public to recognize convicted offenders, and to account for any changes in their appearance.

Until now, the registry could handle only one picture per person on the website, where offenders are categorized by three levels, with three being the highest risk to the public.

The Bronx has nearly 1,700 registered sex offenders, with more than 1,000 of them at a Level 2 or 3.
