THE BRONX - A relative of two city officials has admitted to funneling thousands in embezzled money to his family members.

Richard Izquierdo-Arroyo, 33, is the nephew of City Councilwoman Maria Del Carmen Arroyo and the grandson of Assemblywoman Carmen Arroyo. After an investigation into the family began last June, he now admits to using his non-profit company, SBCC Management Corporation, to embezzle taxpayer money.

In total, Izquierdo-Arroyo says he took $115,000 and donated some of that money to Assemblywoman Arroyo's campaign. Federal officials say the money was also used to buy clothes at high-end retailers, pay for plane tickets, parking tickets and hotel rooms in foreign places.

Neither the assemblywoman nor the councilwoman has been charged. Izquierdo-Arroyo will be sentenced in June and if convicted, faces up to a year in prison.
