THE BRONX - Between the snowy winter and enormous potholes, New Yorkers have been commuting on damaged roadways and it's hurting their wallets.

The General Contractors Association of New York joined a coalition of transportation and infrastructure advocates and the national transportation research group TRIP to study the conditions of New York roads and bridges.

The new report reveals that New Yorkers spend close to $700 each year to repair their cars because of unsafe road conditions. It says that many roads and highways in New York City are not maintained and are in poor condition, causing drivers to spend hundreds in car repairs.

The report also says that one-third of local- and state-maintained bridges 20 feet or longer in New York show deterioration.

City Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez said that the city needs more funding from Albany to make infrastructure improvements.
