THE BRONX - A new report shows that streets in the Bronx over the last decade have been booming with plant life.

According to the New York City Parks Department's tree count census, the borough has more than 80,000 mapped trees to date.

Ten years ago, there were only 60,000.

Annually, $9 million worth of energy has been conserved because of the increase in trees. More than 100,000 pounds of air pollutants have been removed and there has been a drop of 61,000 tons of carbon dioxide.

The Parks Department says they targeted areas with increased childhood asthma rates, specifically Hunts Point and Morrisania.
