Reports: NYPD 'ticket-fixing' probe expands

THE BRONX - Published reports indicate that officials are expanding the investigation into whether officers of the New York Police Department engaged in "ticket-fixing"-- helping friends and family members get out of tickets.

According to the New York Post, a grand jury probe began to investigate misconduct in The Bronx last week, but the probe has expanded to other boroughs and may implicate hundreds of police officers.

The Bronx district attorney's office refused to confirm or deny that the investigation is taking place.

At a press conference today, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the investigation is on-going, but noted the NYPD recently implemented an electronic system that would make ticket-fixing nearly impossible.
