THE BRONX - Officials say the rescue of trapped Chilean miners is moving quicker than expected and has been successful thus far.

Bronx residents are eagerly awaiting news of the miners' rescue. Several groups are holding rescue watch events where community members have planned activities.

Students at St. Francis of Assisi school watched the dramatic images as more than half of the 33 trapped men have been extracted so far.

The students' social studies teacher says current events are important and the miners' rescue is a prime event for them to see.
