Residents: Building has no heat, hot water

THE BRONX - Residents of 674 Saint Ann?s Ave. say their apartment building has not had heat or hot water since Sept. 10 and their landlord is to blame.

Tenants say their landlord illegally tapped into the building?s gas lines to save money, which prompted Con Ed to shut off their gas service. As temperatures drop, they say being inside their homes is like living outside in the cold.

Housing Preservation and Development says it conducted emergency repair on the building to re-pipe the gas lines earlier this month. Since then, the department has negotiated with the Department of Buildings and Con Ed to reinstate heat and hot water to the building as soon as possible.
