MELROSE - Residents in Melrose are calling on the city to fix major cracks in a popular sidewalk.

People say the concrete along East 153rd Street is cracked in a number of places, making walking difficult for pedestrians. Neighbors who use wheelchairs or carts say they have an especially hard time.

One resident, Naomi Torres, even says she was hospitalized with four broken ribs after her foot became wedged and she fell onto the cement. She is now suing the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA).

Officials with the Department of Transportation say they will be working with NYCHA to address the conditions.
