Residents: Cops shouldn't have locked subway

THE BRONX - Some Bronx straphangers who ride the D train say they will be more cautious after a man was stabbed to death on the line over the weekend.

Police say 37-year-old Gerardo Sanchez stabbed Dwight Johnson, 36, in the neck and head after the two argued over a seat. Residents criticized the police for locking down the subway car until they had Sanchez in custody.

According to authorities, about 30 people were in the subway car at the time of the stabbing. Residents say the police put those inside the car in danger by locking it until it reached the station at Seventh Avenue and West 53rd Street.
