BRONXWOOD - Two public housing buildings and a high school were evacuated after construction workers hit a gas pipe on Waring Avenue in Bronxwood Thursday night.

The fire department says a call came in at about 7 p.m., when NYCHA workers were digging next to 925 Waring Ave. and hit a six-inch high pressure gas main causing the leak.

Con Edison crews shut off the gas to both of the apartment buildings and Christopher Columbus High School.

Once the gas line is repaired and stable, the gas will be turned back on.
