Residents fight cuts to Bronx Zoo

THE BRONX - Proposed cuts of $1.5 million to the Bronx Zoo and New York Aquarium have spurred residents to action.

The Wildlife Conservation Society recently started an online petition to stop the cuts. Gov. Paterson's executive budget includes cutting funding to nearly half of zoos and aquariums in the state to try and help close the state's $8 million deficit.

Officials at the conservation society say the cuts could hurt neighboring businesses and include layoffs.
