THE BRONX - Dozens of residents attended a Water Board public hearing to voice their concern about proposed hikes.

The city is proposing a 12.9 percent water rate hike or an average household increase of $93 per year. Bronx residents say they are fed up with increases.

The Department of Environmental Protection says it needs to implement the hike to pay for federally mandated capital projects. The Water Board has until May 21 to decide if they will increase rates. Any increases would go into effect starting July 1.
