Residents: Garbage growing on Bronx streets, pickup slow

Residents in the Bronx say garbage has been piling up on the streets as many are still waiting for the first trash pickup since Dec.

THE BRONX - Residents in the Bronx say garbage has been piling up on the streets as many are still waiting for the first trash pickup since Dec. 24. Residents at 3445 Holland Ave. say garbage has not been removed at all from their building. Other Bronx residents say there is an overwhelming odor in many areas due to all of the trash.

The Department of Sanitation says it has been busy clearing snow, but that garbage is now being collected on a regular schedule.

Sanitation officials say they expect to have all of the garbage picked up by the end of the week and that recycling collection will resume next week.
