THE BRONX - The Bronx is giving out some cash through a program that can help you buy fresh food.

The Bronx has been labeled the unhealthiest county in New York state, and that's why City Councilman Ritchie Torres is pushing the program. He says the $10,000 set aside for Health Bucks is to benefit the borough's health and wellness.

For every $5 a person spends using EBT, they receive a $2 Health Bucks coupon. That coupon can be redeemed for fresh fruits and vegetables at certain farmers markets.

Farmer Julian Nolasco says the program provides another source of income, while maintaining the relationships built over years at farmers markets.
