Residents plead for light repairs along Harlem River footbridge

MOTT HAVEN - Some residents in Mott Haven say they hope the city can finally fix longtime street lamp outages along the Harlem River footbridge. Residents say eight lights have been out for nearly four months, forcing them to walk in the dark. Some elderly neighbors say they are terrified about the possibility of crime. "I am scared," says resident Mildred Beckett. "Me being an elderly person, I am afraid to walk at night and I am afraid to come out at night." Many residents say they have called 311, Con Edison and the Department of Transportation, but have yet to receive a response.
