THE BRONX - West Farms residents say they can finally breathe a sigh of relief as their garbage was picked up after three months.

Tenants at the Lambert Houses on East 179th Street say their trash had been piling up since the Christmas-weekend blizzard last year. Some say the growing mound was dangerous.

The trash was hauled away after News 12 The Bronx contacted the Phipps management company to investigate. The company said snow and an occasionally broken compactor contributed to the pileup, and also blamed the Department of Sanitation for a delayed response.

According to the Department of Sanitation, the broken trash compactor has been an ongoing problem at the complex. It says it's willing to let management bring garbage to the curb, but that they haven't done that.
