Residents: Van Nest desperately needs a bank

VAN NEST - Residents in Van Nest say their community is desperately in need of a bank after the Chase bank in the area closed down.

Community members say the closest bank is on Park and Haulding avenues, which isn't within walking distance. Many residents are forced to instead use check cashing stores and ATMs, which charge fees.

One resident says utilizing check cashing stores also puts people at risk of robbery.

Community Board 11 met with state Sen. Jeff Klein Monday night at St. Dominic School on White Plains Road to discuss the need for a bank with local officials.
