THE BRONX - NYC Council Member Andy King joined seniors at the Boston East Senior Center Friday to honor 24 retired U.S. veterans.

It is a way to remember what the Memorial Day holiday is about, organizers say. They also say it is a way encourage young people to join the armed forces.

The honorees included men and women from WWII, the Vietnam War and Korean War.
