Riverdale dangerous intersection to get safety measures

THE BRONX - One of the most dangerous intersections in the Bronx could become a little safer.

The Department of Transportation is proposing installing countdown signs, concrete pedestrian plazas and upgrade markings in Riverdale near 230th Street and Broadway.

According to the DOT, that intersection has the highest crash ranking in the borough. There is an average of nine injuries per year at the intersection.

Transit experts say the intersection is complex and has many confusing turns. Elevated subway tracks also make it harder to see pedestrians, experts say.

The DOT is expected to later announce when the safety measures will be put in place.
