RIVERDALE - The Riverdale Neighborhood House organization has expanded and revamped its teen center in a push to keep kids engaged and safe.
The space was previously housed on one floor, but it has expanded to two floors at 5521 Mosholu Ave. The center first opened in 1950, and stuck with just one floor due to a lack of funds. It serves people from South Yonkers to Marble Hill, Van Cortlandt Park and North Riverdale.
The revamped "New Space" includes an indoor gym with a basketball court, a study center that offers SAT-prep classes and tutoring, a computer room, a lounge area and a pool table. All amenities are accessible to the community free of charge.
Daniel Eudene, the executive director of the Riverdale Neighborhood House, says the building is "very green" and that it is a safe place where young people can relax and be themselves.
Summer hours have not yet been set, but the center will be open three days a week.
