RIVERDALE - Parents are calling on the New York City Department of Transportation to make Independence Avenue safer in the vicinity of two area schools.

Residents say the road has no traffic lights or stop signs at Independence Avenue and West 235th Street, creating a hazard for students trying to get to and from school, and they want that addressed.

The parents also want the speed limit in the area reduced to 20 mph.
