Road, rail construction to slow weekend travel

The Major Deegan Expressway and the Queens-Midtown Tunnel

The Major Deegan Expressway and the Queens-Midtown Tunnel will both experience closures.

THE BRONX - Planned construction on the roads and rails could delay travel in and around the borough this weekend.

One lane will be closed for another weekend on the Major Deegan Expressway in both directions near the Cross Bronx. The roadway will also be subject to full closures of up to 15 minutes during the overnight hours.

The Queens-Midtown Tunnel will be open with just one tube until 5 a.m. Monday. The remaining tube will take on two-way traffic, and trucks will not be permitted.

The Grand Concourse will also shut down between East Kingsbridge Road and Van Courtlandt Avenue from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday to observe "Hands Across the Concourse."

On mass transit, Manhattan-bound trains will skip 138th Street-Grand Concourse, and no trains will run between East 180th Street and Bowling Green.
