THE BRONX - Two men were sentenced Tuesday to prison for the fatal shooting of a little boy at a Morrisania playground.
Ronald Jeffrey and Rondell Pinkerton were sentenced to eight and 20 years in prison, respectively, for the July 22, 2012 fatal shooting of 4-year-old Lloyd Christopher Morgan. The boy was shot in the head at the Forest Houses playground.
Jeffrey was 19 at the time of the shooting and charged with manslaughter; Pinkerton was 17 and charged with weapons possession. Police said the defendants were involved in a shootout with a rival group of men and they shot Lloyd in the process.

The victim's mother cried as she spoke to the court on sentencing day for the men. "You don't understand how hard this is for me," said Shianne Norman. "I have the rest of my life to deal with this. My son didn't get to go to kindergarten. A few weeks ago, I didn't get a handmade card for Mother's Day."
The judge asked Jeffrey and Pinkerton whether they wanted to say anything to the court, but only Jeffrey spoke. "I'm deeply sorry for what happened and God knows the truth," he said.
Norman says that while the sentencing will not bring her son back, she feels that justice was served.
