THE BRONX - The roof of the CVS at the corner of Burke Avenue and White Plains Road has been demolished less than 24 hours after collapsing Wednesday afternoon.

Crews began work on the demolition Wednesday night and will stay on scene for a few days.

According to emergency crews, heavy snow and ice on the roof is most likely the cause of the collapse. Officials say melted snow also seems to have gotten inside a crack in the roof, weakening the structure.

A lot of water could be seen flowing out of the store's entrance, as the store's sprinkler system broke when the roof came down.

The FDNY says everyone inside the store was able to get out and no one was injured.

A CVS spokesperson says they have transferred pharmacy operations to their nearby store at 732 Allerton Ave. to ensure that customers will continue to have access to their prescriptions.
