THE BRONX - Couples are still running to the altar on the second day same-sex marriages were able to be performed in New York.

Yesterday was a landmark event for hundreds of gay couples who got married on the day same-sex weddings became legal in the state.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo calls the issue one of equality andnondiscrimination. He says allowing gay marriage will ensurecouples have rights such as inheritance, hospital visitation, insurance and pension benefits for same-sex partners.

The overwhelming response in the city meant that not everyone got a chance to tie the knot Sunday. Wedding ceremonies will continue to be performed today at Bronx Supreme Court. Couples who got married yesterday say they had been waiting for this historic moment for most of their lives.
