THE BRONX - Former City Councilman Larry Seabrook has been sentenced to 60 months, or five years, after being convicted of misdirecting public funds for personal use.

Seabrook, a Democrat who used to represent the Northeast section of The Bronx, will report to prison on March 8. He was also ordered to immediately pay $900 and will have to dole out more than $619,000 over time.

Seabrook spoke briefly in court about his character, saying that he is a family man who has served the borough for 30 years.

The Manhattan district attorney said, "Seabrook sacrificed the public trust on the altar of greed ... Today's sentence finally vindicates the interests of the constituents whose interests he so casually violated by his fraud."
