THE BRONX - Security was increased and traffic was diverted to accommodate thousands of cyclists taking part in the Five Boro Bike Tour today in New York City.

The 40-mile tour began in Manhattan and cut through all five boroughs, ending on Staten Island.

The proceeds from today’s bike tour will go to Bike New York’s education fund.

In the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, the police presence throughout the route was increased. Police say mobile cameras, radiation detectors and counterterrorism teams were in use today.

There were no breaches of security during today’s event, but Michael Boren, 51, of Michigan, suffered a heart attack and died after crossing the Queensboro Bridge.
