THE BRONX - Some Riverdale parents are joining the push for legislation to install speed cameras in city school zones.

State Sen. Jeffrey Klein joined parents outside P.S. 81 on Riverdale Avenue where they say speeding has been a consistent problem.

According to a study conducted in March of last year, the city's Department of Transportation (DOT) found that P.S. 81 had the highest levels of speeding in a school zone for the entire borough, with 96 percent of drivers going above the 30 mph posted limit.

Klein says his office conducted a test last month outside of the school and found that hundreds of cars went over the posted speed limit.

Klein says he's confident he will get the state Senate to approve the idea before the legislation session ends next week.
