Shot 12-year-old undergoes surgery to save leg

THE BRONX - Hospital officials are fighting to save a 12-year-old's leg after he was shot near his house last night.

Police say the boy was shot in the left leg near 157th Street last night at around 6:30 p.m.

Hospital officials say they performed surgery this morning in an effort to save his leg. Hospital officials say the boy is in stable condition.

Police say the gunman is still on the loose. Officials are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
