THE BRONX - Residents say they saw a 5-foot long python at a gas station near the intersection of 161st Street and Melrose Avenue.

Witnesses say the snake was curled up near some garbage cans. Many avoided the area because it started hissing at passersby.

City animal control services now has custody of the snake.
