THE BRONX - The winter weather made for a slow and slick morning commute.

Plows and salt spreaders tackled roads throughout the borough, but many remained slippery and snow-covered. Officials advised residents to stick to mass transit if possible.

According to MTA Spokesman Kevin Ortiz, the city's trains and buses were running despite the winter storm, but there were heavy delays and some disruptions.

Ortiz also said transportation workers were salting and cleaning subway platforms and stairs; however, all commuters should exercise extreme caution. He urged everyone to stay away from platform edges and use all available handrails.
