Soundview residents say composting facility stinks

(09/09/10) SOUNDVIEW - Soundview residents are speaking out against the reopening of a nearby composting facility.

Residents say the facility filled their neighborhood with a foul odor, and they don't want the city to reopen it now that it has been closed for several months.

The Department of Sanitation said the composting facility was shut down due to budget cuts, but the city is required by law to collect compost leaf and yard waste. It says the compost is available for free to residents who want to beautify gardens and yards.
