THE BRONX - Police are investigating if alcohol was a factor in a crash that injured nine people on the New England Thruway early Friday morning.

A source tells News 12 The Bronx the nine people injured in the crash were hanging out at Johnny O's on Westchester Avenue before the accident.

Police say just after 5 a.m., Mark Umude was driving his brother's Cadillac Escalade home, carrying eight passengers. Police say Umude was speeding when he turned into exit 13 and crashed into a brick wall.

All nine people were taken to Jacobi Medical Center. Six remain in critical condition and the other three are listed as stable. Umude is one of the people listed in critical condition and as a result, police were unable to give him a Breathalyzer test.
