THE BRONX - The South Bronx has topped a list of the hottest international destination spots to visit in 2017 and the great news has business owners and residents of the area hoping it comes true.

According to a list in the New York Times, the south Bronx hasn't always had the greatest image, partly due to high rates of crime. But things are turning around.

The list credits the South Bronx's artisan coffee shops, galleries and boutiques, but also the soon to open Bruckner Market food hall, which has a rooftop beer garden and a distillery and brewery.

An employee who works at Filtered Coffee, a popular artisan cafe in Mott Haven, says she didn't think the South Bronx would be named a popular global hot spot but she says she is happy that it did.  "This area deserves recognition."

Kendra Brown, a resident of the South Bronx admits her neighborhood is changing and that is what makes it interesting.

Other notable attractions mentioned in the article are Milk Burger restaurant, the highly anticipated Bronx Post Place retail center and dining complex, and various Latin-inspired restaurants.

The owner of the Mott Haven Bar and Grill says she has already seen customers who are tourists from different countries.

"People who visit the Bronx are surprised to find that it is not as it used to be. People have an image of how the Bronx was bad or not safe, but when they come here, it's completely different than how they pictured.”

South Bronx appeared as number 51 on the list of top 52 places to visit in the world for 2017.
