THE BRONX - Spain defeated Ireland 2-0 in an international soccer match at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night.

Spain, the reigning World Cup and European champs, fielded their full squad against the Irish.

A victory over the Spanish powerhouse would have been a major confidence boost for Ireland, who are heading into their final World Cup qualifiers.
