THE BRONX - A Catholic grade school is celebrating its 100th anniversary of educating in Bedford Park.

Villa Avenue was renamed in honor of St. Philip Neri Elementary School during a special ceremony Sunday to mark the milestone.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan also led a centennial Mass, with alumni, friends and parishioners all on hand to reminisce about the students that have flowed through the hallways and classrooms for the past 100 years.

Principal Janet Heed says that although it's been a tough time for Catholic schools, St. Philip’s is doing well and enrollment is up this year.
