State Sen. Espada, son indicted on embezzlement charges

THE BRONX - Democrat Sen. Pedro Espada and his son Pedro were indicted on six charges of embezzlement today.

New York and federal officials say that the two embezzled over $500,000 from their Bronx-based Soundview Health Center for personal use.

The indictment claims that Espada used $49,000 from a Soundview subsidiary as a down payment on a $125,000 Bentley and spent $14,000 in tickets for sports and shows.

Espada has also been stripped of his majority leader title and removed as chair of the Senate Housing Committee following his indictment.
