State Sen. Espada, son plead not guilty to embezzling charges

THE BRONX - Democratic state Sen. Pedro Espada, Jr. and his son pleaded not guilty in court today to charges that they stole from their non-profit health clinic.

Espada and his son surrendered themselves to authorities early this morning.  They are accused of embezzling more than $500,000 from the Soundview Health Center and using it for lavish spending.

The state senator is vehemently denying the charges against him, saying he has complete faith in the justice system.

Espada and his son are out on $750,000 bond. They are due back in court on Jan. 7.
