THE BRONX - State Sen. Jeff Klein (D-The Bronx) is launching an effort to get a drink that doctors say is putting teenagers in emergency rooms pulled from shelves.
Klein says the drink, Four Loko, is packaged to look like an energy drink, making it easier for underage consumers to buy it.
Doctors say the drink is dangerous because it combines caffeine and alcohol.
"You're feeling stimulated, you're feeling pepped up, your heart's going and your judgment is off," says Dr. David Listman, director of Pediatric Emergency Room St. Barnabas Hospital. "You're intoxicated at the same time but you may not realize how intoxicated you are.
Klein is hoping to pass legislation that will require Four Loko's manufacturer to change its bottling.
