State starts spot check of tour buses after crash

(AP) - New York State Police and the stateDepartment of Transportation are sidelining eight bus drivers aspart of a spot check of 36 tour buses

ALBANY - (AP) - New York State Police and the stateDepartment of Transportation are sidelining eight bus drivers aspart of a spot check of 36 tour buses after a horrific crash in NewYork City left 15 people dead.

State officials say preliminary results that include the issuingof eight tickets Thursday are part of an enhanced commercialvehicle inspection effort.

The drivers were cited for various violations, including logbook infractions.

Ten buses were inspected at the Champlain Border Crossing innorthern New York, five were inspected at the Nassau Coliseum onLong Island and 21 were inspected in Monticello in Sullivan County.

Additional stops and checkpoints are planned statewide for thenext several weeks at undisclosed locations and times.
